Tucked away in the southern Arizona desert, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is a hidden gem for golf enthusiasts. The resort’s centerpiece is its championship 27-hole golf course designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Lawrence. The course features three distinct 9-hole layouts, each with its own unique challenges and character, making it a must-play for golfers of all levels.
Tubac Golf coarse is favorable to OMG because it offers 6 tee options, it’s relatively flat and short distances between holes so walking is an option for more exercise. Although I did not walk it it I would when I come back. Oh who am I kidding, I’d probably ride… sThe greens are bent grass, fairways are over-seeded with Rye and the rough is Bermuda.
There are a plenty of water hazards, bunkers and all kinds of animals. Deer, turkey, javelinas, quail, ducks and sometimes a bear will show up.
The Practice facility is fantastic. Grass driving range, bent grass putting green, chipping green and a pitching green with a practice bunker.
The Anza Nine, named after the Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza, is a par-36 layout that measures just over 3,400 yards from the back tees. This nine is characterized by rolling fairways, strategic bunkering, and challenging greens that require precision shot-making. The course features stunning views of the Santa Rita and Tumacacori Mountains!
The Otero Nine, named after the Otero family who were among the first settlers in the area, is a par-35 layout that measures just over 3,200 yards from the back tees. This nine is known for its wide fairways and large greens, which offer plenty of scoring opportunities for golfers who can keep their ball in play. Water comes into play on several holes, adding an extra layer of challenge and excitement.
Made famous by the Hollywood movie Tin Cup! The part in the movie made the hole much larger in scale….This was the scene when Roy McAvoy, (Kevin Costner) playing caddy for David Simms (Don Johnson) was bet that he could carry the hole with a 3 wood, and he does, then immediately gets fired as Simms caddy. BTW – I didn’t carry the hole… If you remember the scene when Romeo (Cheech Marin) breaks all of Roy’s clubs except his 7 iron, that was here too. So a cool history.
The Rancho Nine, named after the ranchers who once grazed cattle in the area, is a par-36 layout that measures just over 3,400 yards from the back tees. This nine is the most challenging of the three, with narrow fairways, well-placed bunkers, and undulating greens that require precise approach shots. The course winds through a natural desert landscape, with panoramic views of the Santa Cruz River Valley.
In addition to the golf course, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa offers a full range of amenities for guests, including luxurious accommodations, a full-service spa, and multiple dining options. The resort’s hacienda-style architecture and lush landscaping create a serene and tranquil atmosphere, perfect for relaxing after a day on the links.
Tubac Golf Resort and Spa also offers a variety of golf packages that include accommodations, rounds of golf, and other perks such as spa treatments and dining credits. Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a golf trip with friends, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is an ideal destination.
So in conclusion, Tubac Golf Resort and Spa is a must-visit destination for golfers looking for a challenging and memorable golf experience.
